As the man-made Western ideals of beauty have spread to the rest of the world, we are losing bodies as fast as we’re losing languages. Even in places like India and Japan, the man-made Western beauty standards are being upheld – instead of celebrating the great variety of human bodies that there are.
This is the inspiration behind Amy D. Herrman’s project, Underneath We Are Woman. For this project, she captured 100 portraits of women, showing 100 different female bodies and 100 different stories. By doing so, Amy wants to show that all women are different and make a stand against the standardization of beauty. Have a look for yourself!
