Artist Turns Baby ‘Plagiocephaly’ Helmets Into Adorable Works Of Art

No, these are not motorcycle, skate or bicycle helmets. These helmets are designed specifically for babies who are born with Plagiocephaly. Plagiocephaly, also known as flat head syndrome, is a condition characterized by a flattening of one side of the head as a result of a too narrow a birth canal or from sleeping on their back. For a few weeks Babies have to wear these sort of helmets to protect their tiny, cute little heads. Normally they’re white, but that is just so boring… That is why Paula Strawn decided to pimp them up a bit.

The idea came to Paula after a friend told her she was afraid of getting snarky remarks when people saw her child wearing a baby helmet. So she decided to do something about it. After she made her first helmet, the baby’s doctor encouraged her to leave flyers and her contact cards. Soon after, there was so much demand that she was able to turn it into a flourishing business. And rightly so, because they are awesome!
